Abstract
A 20-year old, switches on the lights to test the electrical connection built by students at Young Africa (YA), a youth skills training centre in Chitungwiza a satellite town near the Zimbabwean capital, Harare. As part of the course, electrical engineering students build a model electrical system for a two-bedroom house and test to see if the system works properly. YA is an affiliate of Young Africa International, a variety of skills centres around the Continent supported by the Leopold Bachmann Foundation (LBF) to equip young people with skills and pathways to livelihoods. LBF has supported the electrical unit with new equipment for the students to build and test their circuit breaker models. LBF also supports the other training units at YA Zimbabwe.
